What is stress?Stress is an adrenaline addiction.Stress causes disease, it causes changes within the physical body. Posture and adrenaline go hand in hand. Habitually using the respiratory muscles incorrectly, pulling the abdominal muscles in when breathing in, causes the body to stress. If we practice this often enough the body does two things, it learns a bad habit and it learns to become addicted to adrenaline. Both happen simultaneously. The way we use our respiratory muscles and the posture of the physical body when we breathe, sit, stand, exercise, and lie down, for example when we are trying to go to sleep, can and does alter the way the body functions. Either we breathe correctly naturally, or, we do not. If we do not the body becomes stressed and dysfunctional. This form of dysfunction results in sickness and obesity. The body and its internal systems, glands and organs never get a chance to relax, and do what they are meant to do, that is, function without being under pressure - stress. If this happens constantly, sickness follows. This problem, however, is not a breathing problem, the lungs know what to do and have known what to do since we were born, they do not need our help. It is a muscle/posture problem. If we pull the lower abdominal muscles in and breathe high in the chest the body automatically releases adrenaline and oxygen because it has gone into panic. If we 'posture' correctly, the physical body will respond by slowing the adrenaline down enabling the body to de-stress naturally. Using the respiratory muscles (lower abdominal muscles, below the belly button) incorrectly causes the body to develop an addiction to adrenaline. We do not realize we are doing this. It can happen to anyone, in any age group, at any time. Stress is on the increase worldwide and so too is illness and obesity. As we panic breathe, i.e. hold our abdominal muscles in, breathe high in the chest at the same time as raising the shoulders, instead of breathing deep into the lower abdominal area, we are conditioning the physical body to run under pressure. We are also drawing too much oxygen out of the environment and returning too much carbon dioxide into it, so this is bad for everyone. How many times have you been told to sit up straight, stand up straight, pull your stomach in and your shoulders back? It is this action practiced over and over again that causes the body to respond by automatically going into "fight or flight", (panic). The body learns two new habits. It learns to hold the stomach in and at the same time it develops an addiction to adrenaline. Sickness and obesity are the result.
